Top 5 Tuesday - Highlighters

9/09/2014 06:14:00 PM

Hey everyone!

I'm back with another 'Top 5 Tuesday'! Today's topic is going to be about my top 5 highlighters. I honestly love love love collecting highlighters! The shiner, the better! It was really hard narrowing it down to 5 but I think I chose a pretty good variety. From drugstore to high-end, and liquid to powder, these are my top five highlighters!

1- NARS' Illuminator in Orgasm: one of the most unique liquid highlighters I own! It gives off a dewy looking highlight with a pinky undertone and gold shimmer. One of my favorite things about it is that it looks good on bare skin and also on top of foundation. Also, it could be worn all over the face to give off a subtle glow or mixed into your foundation. The best thing about it is that it has a slight citrus scent to it and a small drop goes a long way!

2- Make Up For Ever's Uplight Face Luminizer Gel: I believe this was one of my first highlighters (if not my first ever)! Hands down, my favorite pearly, iridescent shade. A little seriously goes a long way! It's such a versatile product that I can use to highlight the bridge of the nose, cheekbones and cupid's bow but also the inner corner's of my eyes and my brow bone with to give an effortless glow. Only downside about the product, is that the pump pumps out a lot of product at once but I'm fairly certain I got a faulty one.

3- Maybelline's Master Glaze Blush Stick in Barely Pink 202: I actually got this in the spur of the moment while I was ordering products online! I had perfected my cart for a huge order and last minute when I was gonna order I decided to remove a high end product and get a few drugstore instead! So, this was one of the items. Honestly, I can say it wasn't a bad decision. It gives off a beautiful 'pinched cheeks' effect with a subtle shimmer to it. Just applying a little and blending it with your fingers or a stippling brush works wonders! I love how this product is so effortless! Also, it looks amazing with the NARS' illuminator in Orgasm applied on top of it!

4- Tarte's Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmer Powder in Rose: a beautiful gold/champagne highlight that adds a beautiful glow to this skin. I find that it differs from my other highlighters in the way that it doesn't look like it has specs of shimmer in it on the face but gives off more of a natural glow. The only downside to this product is it does accentuate any dryness on my skin if I powder the area before applying this highlighter. It acts as a setting powder and highlight all in one!

5- Wet 'N' Wild's To Reflect Shimmer Palette in Rose Golden Godess 34157: such a unique highlighter! I use this when I want to do a bronzed look and I use it instead of using a blush and a highlighter separately. It looks amazing on top of your cheekbones with a bronze contour and a dewy face. It does have a slight orangy undertone but doesn't show up that much on the skin. Plus, it comes with a free kabuki brush!

  1. Loved this post Maryam!
I've always considered highlighters to be a bit unnecessary (don't judge me) but recently I've realized what a huge difference they can make.
Quick question - do you think it's okay to use light colored eye shadows as highlighters? and what do you think about mixing highlighters with under eye concealer to get rid of that dull appearance?
    Keep up the great work!

    1. Aww glad you enjoyed!

Yes! The beauty of makeup is that you can use anything for anything! I believe each makeup product has at least 2 uses. And for your other question, you should use a lighter undereye concealer to 'wake up' your eyes then apply the highlighter at the top of your cheekbones so it will brighten your face. Applying a highlighter directly under your eyes will accentuate any imprefections under your eyes. You could try something like an ambient lighting powder from Hourglass or a highlighter without shimmer or glitter under your eyes for extra brightness!

      Hope that helped,
      Maryam Al-Mohsen =) x
